On the 28th of September, four students from International University of Malaya-Wales (IUMW) participated in the APAcS Business Challenge (ABC) which was held at UiTM Shah Alam. The main objective of the event was to spark innovation and creativity in the younger generation to become potential successful entrepreneurs in the near future. The representing members of the team were Puteh Majidah binti Ismail, Raja Rajeswary and Affizy Zariel bin Abdul Halim from the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychology, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences (FHSS) and Nurul Farzana binti Zulkifli Amin from the Bachelor of Accounting from the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL). A total of 12 teams from various universities took part in this event including Kolej Universiti Poly-Tech MARA (KUPTM), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), INTEC Education College and International University of Malaya-Wales (IUMW).
The competition consisted of three stages. The first stage was a Business Quiz which comprised of 25 questions. The second stage was a product innovation stage where the teams were given a product on spot and had to transform it. The judges were Mr Izzad Shamsudin, Partner at Deloitte Malaysia and Ms. Diya Ayuni binti Mohd Ramli, Audit Manager at Klynveld Peat Marwick Geordeler (KPMG Malaysia). The participants had to convince the judges in a given period of time in order to emerge to the final stage. The final stage consisted of five groups, our representing team alongside with two teams from UiTM and two teams from INTEC Education College. The participants had to present their PowerPoint in an auditorium in front of the judges, lecturers, students and participants. The teams were given only 7 minutes to present their marketing ideas. Our representing team proposed a service that is a platform where freelancers can offer their talents for a certain pitched price where they can also earn side income. The benefits to the users is that, the application is an easy way for them to get a certain task done if it does not fall in their expertise such as designing a poster, editing audio and translating articles.
The award ceremony began with a speech by the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Accountancy UiTM, Dr Ezrien Mohamad Kamal followed by the prize giving session. The second runner up was Ledger-Dary a representative group from UiTM Shah Alam that took back RM 500. The first runner up was Mochi, a group from INTEC that took home RM 1000. Finally, our representing team took home the first-place award and won the title of the Champion of the APAcS Business Challenge 2018 with a grand prize of RM1500!
