10th July: Last weekend, the International University of Malaya-Wales (IUMW) in collaboration with the ASEAN Accounting Education Workgroup (AAEW) officially launched the ASEAN Future Sustainable Leaders Competition 2021 (A-FSL), a virtual competition aimed at the youth of the ASEAN region.

Over 350 participants from across the region joined the virtual Zoom launch, including attendees from Indonesia and the Philippines. A-FSL is a platform for students to be part of an ASEAN-wide competition and network with a diverse group of students and professionals. Students will showcase their leadership, teamwork, and creativity by solving cases related to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) under the theme ‘Harnessing Sustainable Technology for the ASEAN Community’. The competition will be held at university level, with winning teams going through to the national round, and finally the regional round.

“This is an opportunity for young leaders to move forward with great desire to change the future with sustainability in mind. To be able to do so, we must all come together to build this new future with the youths of ASEAN”, said IUMW Vice Chancellor Mr Tay Kay Luan, in his opening remarks. Winning teams from each country will be given an opportunity to work with other teams and be challenged by a panel of industry-leading professionals.
