Overview

The Library and Resource Centre at IUMW supports the learning, teaching, research, and innovation needs at the University. Our library contains more than 10,000 copies of printed books, journals, periodicals, and articles. In addition to our own library facilities, IUMW students and staff have the privilege to access the extensive resources at the University of Malaya, at no extra cost.

Our on campus library is spacious, with a seating capacity of 250 seats. Visit the library and speak to our helpful and knowledgeable staff for any guidance and support you need while at university.

IUMW students have can access the world class library at UM, at no extra cost. The UM Library holds more than 1.4 million titles with over 2.1 million items in various formats. In addition, the Library provides access to more than 90 online databases comprising more than 46,000 e-journal titles and more than 150,000 e-book titles.

The UM Library consists of a Central Library, as well as a network of speciality libraries to cater to the specific needs of certain faculties. Collections consist of a vast array of materials, including books, journals, conference proceedings, audio video, microform, theses and dissertations, as well as digital resources including e-journals, databases, citation indexes, and bibliographic management software.

  • Open shelf collections can be borrowed by all registered library members, according to the Library circulation policy. Our library staff will request to see your Student or Staff ID Card before loaning any items. You can only borrow or renew items for yourself, and not on behalf of any other member.

    Returning items
    Users can return books at the Circulation Counter, and at the Manual Book Drop located outside the library building which is available 24 hours a day. This Book Drop service provides an option for users who want to return books without going to the Circulation Counter whenever the library is closed.

    Renewal
    All books (except Academic Reserve Collection) can be renewed up to three times, unless they have been reserved by other users. If the loan period is not yet due, renewal can also be done online through the "My Account" section in Pendeta WebPac. Renewals also can be done by telephone.

    Reservations
    Books already on loan may be reserved at the Services Counter or online.
  • In order to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for reading, learning and other Library activities, the IUMW Library and Resource Centre require all users to comply with the following General Rules and Regulations.

    Prohibited Conduct

    Users may not engage in conduct that disrupts or interferes with the normal operations of the Library, its staff, or its use by other visitors. Such conduct may include:

    • Damaging, defacing, misusing, mutilating or stealing any Library materials or property is liable to strict disciplinary action. This includes disabling Library equipment, changing the hardware or software or settings on a Library computer, or using a Library computer for a purpose other than that designated by the Library.
    • Harassing or threatening behaviour.
    • Using obscene or abusive language or gestures.
    • Making unreasonable noise, including loud talking on a cell phone or otherwise.
    • Engaging in sexual conduct or lewd behaviour.
    • Possessing a knife, gun, or any other weapon in violation of University ordinance.
    • Smoking, including electronic cigarettes.
    • Using alcohol or illegal drugs.
    • Failing to maintain appropriate personal hygiene.
    • Soliciting, petitioning, or canvassing.
    • Selling or advertising any goods or services.
    • Engaging in any activity in violation of federal, state, or local law or University or library policies.
    Please also be aware that:
    • The Library is not responsible for personal items that are lost, stolen, or damaged on Library premises.
    • Library staffs reserve the right to inspect bags or other personal property when users enter or leave the Library.
    • Some items in the Library cannot be copied because of copyright laws, poor condition, or donor restriction.
    • Library staff may ask users to show their IUMW Student’s /Staff’s ID or other ID at any time.
    • Large groups that want to visit/tour the Library are required to obtain permission in advance.
    • Photography and recording are not allowed on Library premises without prior permission.
    • Certain rooms and other Library spaces may have additional restrictions.

    Users who do not follow the Library’s General Rules and Regulations may be asked to leave and may lose their Library privileges. Visitors who violate IUMW Ordinances may also be subject to arrest or other legal action.
